Quick GST maths for bills and quotes

Shopkeepers, freelancers and small businesses often need to add GST to a quote or work out the tax inside a final price. Choose a mode, pick the rate and you’ll get the net amount, the tax and the total, with the CGST and SGST split for local sales and IGST for interstate sales.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add GST to a price?

GST amount = price × rate ÷ 100, and total = price + GST. For ₹1,000 at 18%, GST is ₹180 and the total is ₹1,180.

How do I remove GST from an inclusive price?

Net price = inclusive price × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). For ₹1,180 at 18%, the net price is ₹1,000 and GST is ₹180.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

For a sale within the same state, GST is split equally into CGST (central) and SGST (state). For a sale to another state, the full GST is charged as IGST.

Which GST rate applies to my product?

It depends on the HSN or SAC code of the goods or service. Check the official GST rate finder or ask your accountant; rates are revised from time to time.
